My YouTube banner is a digital collage made up of my photography of fungi, lichen, flowers, Lego, and Luna the orca. I designed this in Canva and turned the banner into a fungi guide. Depending on what device you are using you will see a different format. The largest area is seen on a large screen TV. The earthy colours and playful placements make it a fun and sensory pleasing graphic.
I used the Arial font for the labels as it is a suggested font for keeping it sensory friendly. The use of orange and yellow pops off the darker earthy brown background. Yellow is my channels key colour. I am often seen in a yellow rain or wind jacket. I also use the yellow sunflower as a symbol on my channel as it is a beacon for those who deal with invisible disorders. My YouTube channel has become a therapeutic art outlet for me focusing on Lego and nature content.
I am excited to have received the Lego Serious Play set! This is widely used in business environments amongst teams for the purpose of building skills, problem solving, communication, and cooperation. However, I feel this set could be beneficial for those who are experiencing a negative professional environment/experience and want to express how they’re feeling about it through a fun and calming brick building experience. Or perhaps someone might be experiencing a personal challenge that they feel could be interfering with their professional goals such as imposture syndrome.
This set can be used for the purpose of personal development through intuitive building – similar to how one might use clay. This set comes with a wide variety of bricks not found together in other sets making the options for intuitive building unique. I could have easily pulled together many of my sets to build a system similar to this but it would still lack some of the variety this set offers. And honestly, I don’t want to mix my other sets up.
In a Masters thesis paper about using Lego in Art Therapy / Therapeutic Art, Lego is described to be a resistive (as opposed to fluid) medium meaning a solid structure, easier to control. Resistive and fluid mediums are considered for the therapeutic session goal. “Preformed three-dimensional materials, like Lego blocks, are an attractive tool for expression… As aforementioned characteristics of art material, Lego® bricks are resistive materials that permit clients to experience constructing and organizing skills. Lego® tends to elicit cognitive responses that evoke internal organization and contain emotional responses (Jang, 2022, p. 29)”.
